DND Amsterdam
Lines of light repeat through mirrors above a low-ceilinged dancefloor. Refractiv conceived the dancefloor lighting at DND Amsterdam and developed the custom fixtures, programming and technical plans for the venue’s lighting system.

Depth within a low ceiling
The dancefloor’s ceiling and close circulation put visitors near every surface. Refractiv developed a three-dimensional field of light, using elements of different lengths and orientations to give the ceiling a layered structure.
Mirrors repeat that structure beyond the physical ceiling plane. As people move, reflected lines overlap and separate, changing their view of the room. The custom modules keep the visible fixtures refined while accommodating the demands of a nightclub.
Light through the connecting spaces
Baranowitz+Kronenberg conceived the corridors as passages through light. Refractiv translated that architectural concept into the working lighting system, connecting the venue’s spaces through motion and reflection.
A room that changes with the programme
Pixel-level control allows gradients and directional movement to travel across the distributed structure. The programming supports different event and music formats, from quieter states to more active sequences.
The control setup was designed for venue staff with suitable lighting-programming knowledge to create and adapt looks. Refractiv’s technical work included drawings, specifications and contractor instructions, followed by on-site supervision. The installation was originally commissioned in 2017 and refreshed in 2024.
