End Client:BMO
Locations:Harbourfront Centre, Toronto (11 June–2 July 2026) and The Shipyard, Vancouver (11 June–7 July 2026)
Brief and site condition
BMO brought a penalty shootout experience to soccer fans during its viewing events in Toronto and Vancouver. Refractiv designed the interaction and technical system, working alongside Commersive to create an outdoor experience that could handle repeated play across multiple match days.
Fans stepped up to a real soccer ball and took part in a short multi-shot penalty challenge at a large LED goal. A digital goalkeeper reacted in real time, creating the feeling of a live shootout with immediate visual feedback after each attempt.
Experience flow and responsive design
The experience was designed to feel simple and direct: one ball, one goal, and a clear result as soon as the shot landed. BMO-branded animations marked each outcome on the LED wall, keeping the pace fast and the queue moving for the next player.
Behind the scenes, the system combined sensing, tracking, and responsive visual logic to deliver a fast, reliable, and engaging result for each shot.
Refractiv’s scope covered game mechanics, responsive system design, hardware specification, installation planning, contractor guidance, on-site supervision, operator training, and remote support.
The experience ran during select BMO soccer viewing events in summer 2026.
